Guatemala City Street Food – RY Marketplace

-Getting to know a very nice historic centre of Guatemala city, our capital-Guided by a local Guatemalan from the area who now lives in Antigua-A walking tour in the city including some snacks and an opportunity for lunch at a very famous local eatery in the centre of Guate

-Experiencing a different view of a very bad reputation metropolis and one of its famous markets, seeing and tasting the daily life of a Guatemalan from the city

Description

Taking the chance to visit the capital of Guatemala, we’ll meet our Antiguan restauranteur and food experimenter Andres, who will accompany us by private transfer. (If you are one of the lucky ones to have already eaten at Andres’ restaurant as part of the Altamira Sunset & Dinner experience, then you’ll know you’re in for a culinary treat…)

On arrival to Guatemala City, we’ll walk through the historic centre, taking in some of the main city sights as well as a visit to a traditional bakery  for a morning snack & coffee, all before arriving to the Mercado Central. You may wonder why we’re travelling out of Antigua to go to a food market? Well, this food market is visited only by locals, and not on the normal tourist route. This is why we have our connoisseur Andres at hand to talk us through all the Guatemalan native cuisine & ingredients.

We’ll end up at the Comedor within the market, which is the dining hall for locals. Your chance to sit down and savour all that’s on offer…

Meet our local host

Andres is our guide & host for this experience. He is Guatemalan and has been living in Antigua for many years. Before setting up Montagu restaurant, Andres was responsible for curating experiences in the area for international groups, so knows a thing or two about providing excellent hospitality.
He brings all this knowledge and experience, (including which market stalls are safe on the stomach to eat from) to create a great twist for this bespoke tour.

Itinerary

Upon departing from the meet point (details on hub event), you will travel with Andres to Guatemala city (Guate as us locals call it), this takes about 45mins to an hour depending on traffic, arriving to Guate you leave the van at a parking lot and start your walking tour in the historic centre of the city, you will then visit a very famous local bakery to get a snack and coffee and continue onwards to the mercado central where you have the opportunity to try very local foods. Lunch is not included but its is an option also, and the visit to the bar at the end of the tour. A cherry on the cake that is up to you make this pit stop before heading back to Antigua. What happens if my booking is changed/cancelled due to weather?

But don’t worry, your City Manager is here to help and will do their best to come up with a solution if an event is affected. We understand that everyone’s schedule is different, so while we can’t guarantee a make-up option will work for everyone, we promise to try our hardest. If you’re unable to attend the make-up date, no problem – we’ll give you a full refund for your booking.
