ALBUFERA LAGOON BY BIKE AND BOAT

Ruzafa pick-up to the L’Albufera Lagoon, only 10km south of the city of Valencia, but worlds away. The wetlands are a hard to reach area filled with rice paddies, sand dunes and over 300 bird species in this protected natural park. Upon arrival, we will take a 1-hour bike ride through the flat biodiversity of this area, ending in the small town of El Palmar, and stopping for pictures in this unique landscape. It is a quintessential Valencian area, as it was an island that wasn’t always connected to the mainland, so the traditions and language have been preserved like no other. With a local, we take a boat ride through the tall reeds and canals to see the majesty of Valencian nature on the largest ‘lake’ of Spain and hear stories of the importance of this area to Valencia city through their Roman, Moorish and medieval past and gain an understanding of just how climate change is affecting areas like these. While we troll along with feet in the water, we will also have a Valencia picnic style lunch. Microbus return to the city. EL TRINQUET

Hidden in a small street we’ll find El Trinquet the oldest active sports venue in Europe. You’ll get to watch a game of Pilota Valenciana (think about tennis but played with bare hands!). This ballgame, played for centuries, is more than a sport. It’s part of the identity and cultural roots of Valencia. We’ll have the unique opportunity to see how professional players prepare their hands for the game and they will tell us more about it. Then we’ll head to the court to watch a professional game, within the Trinquet Championship. You’ll be amazed by the amazing skills of the players. Once the match finishes, you will have the opportunity to play this game with your own hands with a softer ball. Then, we will go to a GastroBar just next to the venue and eat delicious mediterranean food served in a really particular and visual way, representing El Trinquet at all times.

Time 6PM – 10PM typically
