What better way to arrive at the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu than by adventure? Join us for an action packed 2-day journey that will be a highlight of your trip to Peru.We start day 1 biking through lush jungle and Andes peaks. Then, we’ll take to the Urubamba River, rafting through rapids as we take in the scenic shoreline. The day closes out at Colcamayo natural hot springs where you can relax in the warm waters and enjoy the 360 degree views of the area.
The next morning we’re up bright and early to begin the final trek to Machu Picchu. We’ll walk for about 2.5 hours on flat land beside the train tracks. This road takes us all the way to Aguas Calientes, the gateway to your final destination. After a short break and bus up the mountain, we arrive to the lost city of the Incas for a guided tour of the magical Machu Picchu.

Meet Our Local Host
Omar is your host for the weekend. He is a local from Peru and a friend to Remote Year. He was the previous City Manager in Lima and can’t wait to meet more Remotes while experiencing Machu Picchu together.
Itinerary
DAY 1
Morning
We will begin our Andean Adventure trip early in the morning (4:30 am pick up from your hotel) as a fun and active day awaits us, heading northwest of Cusco, we will pass by the towns of Chinchero, Urubamba, and Ollantaytambo, the last two located in the Sacred Valley of the Inkas. Our adventure begins at Abra Málaga at 4,316 m / 14,160 ft high pass, with its impressive view of the snowcapped Veronica. Here you will receive a brief description of our biking adventure, equipment, bicycles and safety instructions. Once we are ready, we will start our descent towards the town of Santa María located at 1300 m /4265 ft, along our outstanding route of approx. 3 hours, we will be able to whiteness amazing landscapes, glaciers, orchid gardens, fruit tree plantations, coca, coffee, cocoa, tea, all typical of the jungle we approach, in addition to enjoying our lunch.
Afternoon
After we recover from such a unique experience, we will be ready to start the next one, river rafting full of adrenaline for approx. 1 hour and a half. Finally, after this, we will take the van and drive for approx. 1 hour to the town of Santa Teresa where we will check in to the Eco Lodge.
Evening
After enjoying a delicious dinner, we will head out to the famous hot springs of the town where we will have some time to chill and relax. (This is one of the highlights of the day!)
DAY 2
Morning
The next morning we will start the day at 5:30 am. After breakfast, our professional guide will guide to the town of Aguas Calientes. To get there, we will hike for 2.5 hours, to then take the bus and start your guided tour through the ancient Incan citadel of Machu Picchu! You will have the chance to learn and visit some of the main temples, stairways, squares, roads, among other amazing spaces of this architectural complex, such as the Intiwatana. After the guided tour, you will have free time to explore this extraordinary World Heritage Site on your own. Our guide will indicate where and at what time we can meet again for the return.
Afternoon
We will enjoy lunch at Aguas Calientes to then return to Cusco. For that, we will be taking the train and a van transport afterward.

Special Clothing Required: Bring bathing clothes, rainy gear (depending on the season). hiking shoes are not necessary but advisable. comfortable shorts. long trousers, not leggings because mosquitoes can pass through them. various changes of clothing due to humidity, especially underwear clothing, socks. Accessories: small backpack for supplies, sunglasses. mosquito repellent. sunscreen. toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant. a hat that provides shade.
Special Dietary Restrictions: Most dietary needs are catered for. Please inform the city team upon booking.
Extra Cash: Needed for tipping, donation, additional services, cash (soles) for purchases in the town, tips, and bar consumption
Ground Transportation: Road transportation is included
Additional Info: Accommodation: Lodges are both simple but comfortable. No AC. Private rooms don’t mean bigger beds, it only means, a private room
Flights: Flights are $130-220 approx. and you can use airlines such as viva air, LATAM, and Peruvian Airlines. More details will be shared in your specific group.
For us to secure your ticket, we will need access to your name, last name (as stated in your passport), nationality, passport number, DoB, pick-up location and dietary restrictions. This information is necessary for us to purchase your train tickets, entrance to Machu Picchu, etc. Remotes are responsible for sharing this information with the Lima City Manager or Lima City Coordinator in a timely manner
Liabilities: The liability for any injury, loss, or damage incurred by participants is not assumed by Remote Year or its affiliates.
No refunds: There will be no refund in case of delayed flights, train delays, bad weather or other external factors

After 24 hours & before the booking deadline
A cancellation fee may be applied depending on the circumstances, if the experience can go ahead. If this is the case, the total refund minus the cancellation fee will be issued in Marketplace Credit or deducted from your next month’s invoice. The fee and preferred refund option will be communicated via email with [email protected]
After the booking deadline
By this point we will have definitely made promises and financial commitments on your behalf and so cancellation fees may be up to 100%. What happens if my booking is changed/cancelled due to weather?
Let’s be real – no one can control the weather, and sometimes things just don’t go as planned. But don’t worry, your City Manager is here to help and will do their best to come up with a solution if an event is affected. We understand that everyone’s schedule is different, so while we can’t guarantee a make-up option will work for everyone, we promise to try our hardest. If you’re unable to attend the make-up date, no problem – we’ll give you a full refund for your booking.
I have a discount or gift code, can I use it to complete my purchase?
Yes, once you add your item to your cart and check out, you will be able to input the code before completing the purchase. If you need help finding your code, please double check your inbox. You received an email from Marketplace with the code.
Can I book for a friend / family member?
Sure! We welcome your friends and family coming to visit you while you travel the world. We do, however, reserve the right to deny access to Friends / Family who are over using RY Services.
I haven’t received a booking confirmation email, can you help?
Please reach out to us at [email protected] and we’ll help. In some cases, you may have multiple emails associated on the Marketplace and this is causing some confusion. Reach out and we’ll do our best to sort it out!
If I cannot attend, can I transfer my ticket to someone else?
Yes, you may transfer your booking to another Nation Member or Family/Friend. Please notify the City Manager as soon as possible to confirm the change. Please note, in the case of special dietary requirements, we might not be able to accommodate special requests on last minute changes. Any bookings that require advanced ticketing linked to an individual’s ID might not be approved.
Will I be able to work on this experience?
If you have to check in with work at any point during the scheduled time, we recommend confirming with the City Manager before booking.
I’m a Nation Member but not on an active program, can I still book?
We will always prioritize Remotes who are traveling with an active program on experiences. You may be able to book but there is a chance the City Manager will reach out to let you know we have to release your spot for an active Remote. If you’re in a city but not traveling with a program, we recommend reaching out to the City Manager on the Hub to confirm before booking.
