Historical Scavenger Hunt in Old Town – RY Marketplace
Highlights
– Culture & History
Description
Do you want that same rich experience of sightseeing while also learning about the historical significance of famous landmarks? Do you like to see places at your own pace while relishing in that sweet feeling of discovery? Say no more! We have you covered with Istanbul’s Scavenger Hunt.
The way it works is our group meets up, forms into teams, and each team receives a list of challenges to be performed and photographed around the historical part of the city. The challenges are divided into categories – historical, social, and treasure seeking. Historical challenges give loose directions and some backdrop to significant events and locations and players will have to use their phones to fill in the gaps and discover the whereabouts of Istanbul’s rich history. Social challenges encourage players to mix it up with the locals, to have unique experiences, and gather great stories to tell at the end of the event. Treasure seeking challenges send players searching for scattered clues around the side streets of the Old City, which lead to lost riches.
At the end of the two-hour time limit, players return to the meeting point where a video collection of all their photos and videos are displayed for the group, stories are shared, and points are tallied to determine the winner. The winning team receives a bottle of Turkish alcohol, which they are NOT required to share with the losers. Consolation prizes are also given out for best story, most artistic photograph, best team name, etc.
It’s important to note that a knowledge of Istanbul history, geography, or language is not at all required to participate. It can certainly help, but in this area of Istanbul, English is widely spoken and most places are accustomed to foreigners.
