The first Sunday of every month, Team Alameda will be offering Introductory Rides for new riders. If you've thought about riding with Team Alameda, but weren't sure you were up to speed, this is the ride to get you in the swing!
The ride itself will be an easy paced, flat terrain ride where you can learn the ropes of group riding. There will be two to three official Team Alameda ride leaders on hand to mentor new riders and refresh memories of bike handling skills. Newbies will meet a gregarious bunch of cycling buddies who have found group riding to be an essential part of their lives, and want to pass that on.
"First Sunday" rides will meet the first Sunday of each month at 9am, in front of Kaiser at 2417 Central Avenue, Alameda.
Don't let the spandex frighten you! Team Alameda wants everyone to enjoy cycling as much as we do, so come on out and experience firsthand the fun of riding with Team Alameda!
"Second Sunday" rides are the slow rides and are scheduled the second Sunday of each month at 9am at Kaiser steps, 2417 Central near Park.
Each Slow Ride has a theme, for example in July it was "Gardens". Our route was about 15 leisurely miles. We paused in front of some selected gardens, and whenever we just wanted to stop and take a closer look at flowers & plants that captured our attention. We planned stops at the following three nurseries:
Remember - helmet, a snack, water & sun block!
We've created an e-mail discussion list and a lower-volume announcement-only list for people who bike in Alameda, whether it be for recreation, exercise, commuting, or everyday transportation.
The purpose of the discussion list includes:
The Discussion list is used to facilitate discussions among Alameda cyclists. Once you have joined, you will receive all emails sent to the list and may reply to them, or send a new message, whenever you choose.
If you are concerned about email volume or just interested in announcements of events and important information, you can join the announcement only list. Only list moderators will be allowed to post to this list, so volume will be kept to a minimum.
(You do not need to subscribe to both lists -- announcements will show up on the discussion list as well.)
To subscribe, follow the instructions on this page; the computer will process your submission, and then send you a message later to confirm that it is indeed you that wants to join the list.
When you receive your welcome message, you're in business — please be polite and introduce yourself to the group, so we can get to know you. The folks on the list are friendly and want to talk about bicycling! To send a message to the entire group, address it to discuss@bikealameda.org -- don't be shy!
The purpose of the announcement list includes:
To subscribe, follow the instructions on this page; the computer will process your submission, and then send you a message later to confirm that it is indeed you that wants to subscribe to the list.
Instructions for leaving either of the lists is found at the bottom of each e-mail you receive from the list.
If you ever need to get in contact with the owner of the lists, (if you have trouble unsubscribing, or have questions or comments about the list itself) send an email to dan at bikealameda dot org.
