Letter to City Council

BikeAlameda would like to commend City Staff for their work on the Estuary Crossing Feasibility Study. The estuary crossing issue is the top concern for Alameda bicyclists and we are delighted to see such a thorough study finally completed. We view it as a milestone in that now, for the first time ever, we have well-vetted, specific recommendations to guide us forward. Thank you for funding this important study.

We recognize the value of getting input from a wide variety of stakeholders, especially in a complex situation like this, where there are so many jurisdictions, interests, and suggestions at play. The solicitation of public input, which is key, since success of any alternative will rest on the public, was especially laudable. We recognize that given the circumstances, any proposed alternative will have supporters and detractors, and believe that the recommendations in this study represent as near a consensus as can be had. This is no small feat. We are also impressed by the breadth of options that were considered and think that a good balance between hard and soft data was struck in making final recommendations. Therefore, we support the study's recommendations and hope that going forward, we stay focused on them.

We hope that you approve the study and thank you again for your support to date.
